The Metropolitan Area Papillon Club of Washington DC, Inc., MAP, is a nonprofit organization conceived to protect the Papillon breed and serve as an educational tool for the general public and club members. In the mid ‘70s, a loosely organized band of Papillon supporters created the Mid Atlantic Papillon Club, aka MAP, later to become The Metropolitan Area Papillon Club of Washington D.C., Inc. Their first formal organizational meeting and election of officers was held after the Papillon classes at the Baltimore County K.C. show on Sunday, Nov. 21, 1976. This historic event was followed by the groups first fun match on Sunday July 17, 1977. The match was preceded by the first annual pool party with smoked turkey and HAGs on Saturday the 16th. This gathering became associated with the club's early fund raising event, an annual auction which, to this day, provides financial backing for MAP’s endeavors. The Best Adult at the first fun match was Byrams Disco Queen³ owned by April Adams of the Delmarva Coast and the Best of Opposite Sex Adult was JeJa Huger² owned by Jessie Johnson from Columbia SC. Best Puppy went to The Alethra Stardust¹ owned by Sally Gell, Silver Spring MD, and Best of Opposite was Credrensa Genie owned by Randy Schmidt, Baldwin MD. Starheir’s Amanda Blaze owned and handled by Shirly Schwartz of Baltimore MD was High in Trial. This bit of trivia is provided to demonstrate the club has always had a wide geographic base.
